Cancun - Isla Mujeres
Another day trip was to Isla Mujeres. We enjoyed an "Entertainment" boat ride. The four guys - captain & crew - did a hilareous re-enactment of Titanic and other assorted comedy-esque routines. Jaeden still talks about the funny boat ride. Most of the pics from the boat ride are in the slideshow on the previous post. We decided to stay on the boat to take a ride around the island. This is how we got the pictures of the crystal clear water. We also had an opportunity to swim in the water which felt great. Unfortunately, they were not able to anchor the boat as usual is relatively shallow water, so we all donned lifejackets for a more enjoyable swim.
One of the best stories from our Cancun trip was swimming in the water. I guess this was Jaeden's first experience swimming in salt water, as he had just turned 3. Anyways, even with a lifejacket, some of the water got in his mouth, which he did not like at all!! When I explained it tasted funny because it was salt water, his response was "I like the pepper water better!" For several months, he referred to normal water as pepper water. I think he also remembered having swam in the lake with his life jacket that summer, which of course did not have any salt!

Cancun - 9+ months later...
The above pictures are from the beach and around the resort. We had a blast hanging out and eating anything you wanted! The boys love being outdoors! The iguanas were always easy to find, but I guess we don't have a close up picture of one, but they could be seen almost anywhere enjoying the sun!
These pictures are from the day trip Joel and I took to historic Chichen Itza. There is the one large temple like building in the middle with other smaller structures in the area. Of course, like most ruins, there is alot of evidence of their scientific knowledge. Each side of the temple has 91 steps to correlate with the 364 days of the year plus a final step to the smaller temple on top to make 365. The acoustics were amazing - I think it was the angle they built the temple helped to amplify the sound, so anyone speaking from the top of the temple could easily be heard. The guide had us clap to her how loud the sound was magnified from a small clap.

Yes - I'm still blogging!
I know it's been awhile since I've posted, but I seem to always be busy :) I don't know how some of you (emily) find time to post everyday!!
my new background is inspired by Jaeden, who is very excited about seeing the fireworks. Tonight at dinner Joel asked what was coming on Saturday, and Jaeden replied - Fireworks, not Daddy's birthday as Joel was expecting.
People around us have been practicing with fireworks for the last week, and a few nights ago, Jaeden asked about the noise, and when learning it was fireworks, we had to open the blinds in his room "just in case he could see some from his window." although we did tell him, it was very unlikely!
i have so much to blog about, but i'm also living life and trying to study for my board exam i'm hoping to take later this month. lots and lots of studying is still required!!!

Jessica's boy all the way
I am now sure that Jaeden has mostly his mommies genes. Tonight when we finished family scripture time we sang our songs as normal. We all choose a church song that we want to sing that night. During some of the fast upbeat songs the boys run around, jump, clap, or climb on mommy or daddy. well tonight Jaeden tried something new. We were in the middle of singing one of their favorite songs when we here Jaeden call out "watch this". As Jess and I turn our head to see what he is doing we see him jump up from his scripture mat and drop his pants showing us his business. Jess and I had to do everything we could not to laugh. Jayce meanwhile thought that Jaeden's new move was hysterical so he began to try it, thank heavens he can't get his diaper down as fast as Jaeden can his drawers. Well needless to say we put an end to this move especially during a supposedly religious moment. I know what everyone is thinking and I totally concur that Jaeden is just like Jessica. There is no way I would have done this as a child. Just ask my mom I was innocent and sweet. I think we are in trouble he is only 3.

And the winner is....
Grandma G - yes, the large lump on his head is from a mosquito bite. Jayce is very allergic and swells very quickly after any mosquito bite. The bite occurred Sunday evening, the picture was taken Monday evening, and by Tuesday, there was no evidence of any bite or bump. The week before Jayce got two bites on his right hand (within 2 days) and his hand was huge and very red!!! I kept thinking he had cellulitis. For some reason, the head bite did not get as red as usual. For those that have been reading the blog for awhile...you could refer to an older post 9/28/08 "Jayce's words at 16 months", that shows his very swollen ear from one mosquito bite!!
2nd place goes to the one who answered "head shut in car door" if you look at the top picture there is a bruise over his cheek bone. this occurred on saturday when jaeden tried closing the car door, but unfortunatly jayce's head was in the way! however, the large lump is definitely from a mosquito bite, i saw the initial bite and watched it swell over a few short hours.

What happened here?
I don't know what it is about the 2nd child, but he tends to get more bumps, bruises, and boo-boos than the 1st. I'm sure having an older brother is part of the issue, but jayce is not a clumsy kid, he's actually very coordinated for an almost 2 year old. you can answer the question in the poll, and the answer will be posted in a few days.

Dinosaurs
Jaeden loves anything to do with dinosaurs as mentioned in earlier posts. He's seen almost the whole 'Land before time' movie and loves to act out various scenes. It's amazing that movie's over 20 years old, and I actually remember seeing it in the theater when I was 8 or 9.
While riding in the car yesterday, and discussing who would play each dinosaur, he said talking to me, "you can be the stegosaurus and i'll be the TENACIOUS T-rex" yes, we asked to him to repeat it a couple times to make sure that is what he said. supposedly he learned it from Little Foot, but i'm not too sure about that. anyways, what 3 year old has tenacious as part of his vocab? joel and i never use that word, so it's not from us!!
another note on jaeden is that he can now count to 100 - he has trouble remembering 5 is '50' but otherwise loves counting and reading digital clocks!
